Hi Steve, I'll be interested to know how the migration goes. Please make sure you pop back to let any stragglers know :-)
I tend to only focus on the relationship between me and my subscribers and not the massive ecosystem that exists outside of the email list. But it's getting harder. Keep up the great work. Wherever that may be. 73 G5DOC
Doc - I have little interest in the "massive ecosystem" of Substack, but it keeps intruding on ME as a newsletter creator. I'm picking up a lot of odd subscribers; apparently there's some benefit in Substack in referrals to other newsletters, but I'm not playing along by subscribing back and recommending these other completely unrelated to Amateur Radio... or even tech... other newsletters.
Thanks for the reminder that the comment replies are open on the 900MHz proposal. I meant to comment the first time, but school starting and life kept me busy.
Speaking of life, I will admit to spending 30 or so ADD riddled minutes with my Flipper Zero and Woj's code for the Gameboy Advance M17 port that was mentioned a couple of weeks ago. I highly suspect that M17 is more than possible on the Flipper Zero, but life is preventing me from learning how one might do such a thing.
Finally, I'm excited to try Mercury for BBS to BBS message forwarding since BPQ supports VARA. I now need to add that to the project list right behind getting my TK-880s working nicely with the Module17.
Keep up the great newsletter. Even when I'm too busy for projects it keeps adding them to the list.
Ben - Thanks for the kind words about Zero Retries. Yeah, I think I'm going to have to get a Flipper Zero so I can keep my tech cred as someone who really does experiment with radio technology. I hope they keep working away at Mercury and bring it up to the equivalent of VARA FM's capacity to do 25 kbps in a typical Amateur Radio VHF / UHF FM channel.
On behalf of the Granite State Amateur Radio Association, I would like to thank you Steve for your Zero Retries talk for our club. I think it’s great to expose both our newer ham members, as well as some of us who have been licensed for decades to Zero Retries related topics. It is a great way to help keep the hobby moving forward. Thanks!
Bill - Thanks for the kind words about the presentation on Friday evening. It's a hard balance to strike to not sound like I'm dissing all of traditional Amateur Radio in presenting only a smattering of Zero Retries Interesting topics. But... the new Hams coming in from, as I used an example, the DEF CON conference, just don't get why DXing or calling CQ Contest for a weekend is a thing that is interesting. Thus, I'm making my pitch to the newer, techie, trending younger Amateur Radio folks... and those that might become one.
