2025-07-26 — ZRDC 2025 Update, We Showed Up on FCC SB Docket 25-201, M17 Community Moves Past Mainstream MMDVM Support, Open Communications Organization (AM CELL), RRI and ARRL Sign MOU re: NTS
My thoughts "consistently showing up with comments to the FCC on every matter" sadly hasn't brought about the needed change. If going thru the motions is acceptable to you, then that's fine. But at some point when things aren't working you up the ante... maybe this is finally a start to that, but without conveying a plan it is not impressive enough yet to me.
Steve - If there aren't significant, solid comments filed with the FCC in defense of Amateur Radio, then that's the equivalent of rolling over and Amateur Radio saying "Whatever, FCC". Agreed that doing so is entirely fighting a defensive action. But, as I remarked in ZR 0212A, at least ARRL IS SHOWING UP. Others, sadly, are not. I don't have any idea how US Amateur Radio as a whole could "up the ante". There's only one other Amateur Radio related organization that has significant financial strength that could indeed "up the ante" but they've shown no interest in applying any pressure to the FCC... and indeed, didn't even bother to file comments in 25-201.
There was quite a bit of ham radio presence at Open Sauce. SF-HAB.org was exhibiting their amateur radio high altitude balloon payloads and I was part of the Meshtatsic booth (Although not entirely ham related the Meshtastic booth was really popular with hams passing by and I saw lots of HTs)
Benjamin - I'd welcome a brief article from you about your experience at Open Sauce from the Meshtastic booth, including what was being shown off and discussed there. Meshtastic is a Zero Retries Interesting subject. Email - editor@zeroretries.net.
