Zero Retries Digital Conference (ZRDC) 2026 will be held on
ZRDC 2026 will be held on the same Friday as the first day of Pacificon 2026(Friday October 16th, Saturday October 17th, and Sunday October 18th).
For convenience of ZRDC 2026 attendees, the Roundhouse Conference Center is a short walk from the San Ramon Marriott hotel where Pacificon 2026 will be held.
Please note that Pacificon 2026 and ZRDC 2026 are independent, separate events, with separate registration.
If you’ve never visited a Micro Center store, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Micro Center is a great retailer, and like the legendary Fry’s Electronics, you can grab a shopping cart and ask for concierge help to build a computer with all bespoke parts from case to motherboard to CPU… and everything else electronic.

We are excited to announce the registration for our second Zero Retries Digital Conference (ZRDC 2026) is now open! This year’s conference will bring together Hams and people interested in the technological innovations in Amateur Radio to explore and listen to expert speakers, regarding various topics pertinent to digital communications. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in engaging sessions, and connect with colleagues from across the industry. In the next few weeks, we will be compiling our list of speakers and will update that list in Zero Retries weekly until the roster is complete.
Registration will again offer in-person access and virtual attendance options to attend the conference. Ticket price descriptions state what is included with each level of participation. Such as, in-person attendance includes access to the conference along with conference proceedings, welcome refreshments, and a chance to win raffle prizes. Throughout the day, coffee service, lemonade and fruit infused water will be available. There are several food options for purchase at the conference center.

ZRDC 2026 will be held on Friday, October 16th, 2026 at the Roundhouse Conference Center in San Ramon, California. This venue is on the back side of the San Ramon Marriott Hotel where the 2026 Pacificon Conference will the held the same weekend. Pacificon will be held Friday, October 16 through Sunday, October 18th and is one of the largest conferences on the West Coast. Friday, October 16th is the only day the conferences will overlap.
While ZRDC 2026 and Pacificon 2026 are being held the same weekend and in very close proximity, they are two separate events. Please see the links to each event and consider attending both events.

Zero Retries Digital Conference (ZRDC) 2026 Call For Papers is Now Open
ZRDC 2026 is being hosted by the Zero Retries newsletter. Papers will be published in the Conference Proceedings of the ZRDC. Authors do not need to present at the conference to have their papers included in the Proceedings, although presenters are highly encouraged to submit a separate technical paper (for the Proceedings). All presenter presentations will also be published in the Proceedings.
A typical technical paper for ZRDC is a short (typically 5-10 pages) but in-depth explanation of a project, experiment, or new technique. A technical paper typically includes the problem(s) to be solved and how the solution was built and tested, and what was learned. Diagrams, data, and code are often included. The intended audience for technical papers are not just the attendees of a particular ZRDC - they’re intended to help others implement or enhance the subject of the technical paper.
A ZRDC technical paper is different from a presentation slide deck:
A technical paper is self-contained - all of the needed detail is in the text of the technical paper. A presentation slide deck provides speaking points - the detail is in the presentation narration.
A technical paper explains the idea in depth for the long term. A presentation slide deck is a “snapshot” of an idea at that moment in time.
Very generally, a technical paper explains the details of how you did something. A presentation slide deck explains (generally) what you did to expose the idea to those who aren’t familiar.

We expect that ZRDC 2026 will be very popular and will require help from attendees. Specific roles requested:
Setup / Teardown
Prior to the start of ZRDC 2026, and immediately after the conclusion of ZRDC 2026 there will be some unpacking and setup and teardown tasks. Likely there will be other help needed, perhaps assisting audio / video setup.
Photographer
We learned at ZRDC 2025 that a dedicated photographer is a great asset to the conference, especially photographs of the presenters, attendees, and the overall “experience” of the conference.
Social Media Updates
Updates of an event in progress are a great help to every conference and offers a small bit of the experience of the conference to those who aren’t able to attend the conference.
Monitor the Video Feed for Questions
Likely the ZRDC 2026 video feed will use Zoom, and the online audience will inevitably have questions that they’ll post in the chat. We learned at ZRDC 2025 that a dedicated person watching the video chat is the best way to handle this issue.
Microphone Runner
The ZRDC staff will be busy hosting the conference so a dedicated person to do “microphone runner” would be a great help.

Zero Retries is an independent newsletter promoting technological innovation in and adjacent to Amateur Radio, and Amateur Radio as (literally) a license to experiment with and learn about radio technology.
Zero Retries is published (usually) weekly by Steve Stroh N8GNJ (Editor) and Tina Stroh KD7WSF (Business Manager). The first Zero Retries Digital Conference (ZRDC 2025) was held in Everett, Washington in September 2025 in conjunction with GNU Radio Conference 2025. ZRDC Conference Manager Tina Stroh KD7WSF has extensive experience in successful Amateur Radio technical conferences including the TAPR Digital Communications Conferences (DCCs) held in the Seattle, Washington area in 1996 and 2013, which were the first and second best-attended DCCs.

The ZRDC 2026 venue is very close (an easy walk) to the conference hotel for Pacificon 2026. The two events are not related. Tina and I were so impressed that there were many more attendees at Pacificon that were “Zero Retries” kinds of folks, and it made sense to try to put ZRDC 2026 in proximity to Pacificon. For example, ScaleRF unveiled the prototype of the QuadRF at Pacificon 2025.

Continuing the momentum from last year, Steve and Tina Stroh are planning the second annual Zero Retries Digital Conference on October 16, 2026 in San Ramon, CA. ZRDC will be held in the same city, and on the same day as the first day of Pacificon 2026. You can attend two great conferences in a single trip.
Tina is putting together the speakers and presentations, I can’t wait what she comes up with.
Save the date, registration will be open soon, and they expect tickets to go quickly.
Zero Retries Digital Conference (ZRDC) will return for a second year on Friday, October 16, 2026. This year’s conference will take place in Sam Ramon, California, USA at the Roundhouse Conference Center. Pacificon 2026 will take place the same weekend in the same city, just down the street from ZRDC.
An informal visit to the Computer History Museum will take place the Thursday before ZRDC 2026. (Editor’s note: A visit to CHM is worth arriving early!)

People arriving the day of the conference can still register, the admission WILL NOT include meals and the admission price also increases due to the venue having additional tasks. We have hired an AV team to provide a live feed into the conference so that people can be part of the live conference without being there. The URL will be sent a few days prior to the conference and a link to download the materials.

Ticket includes same items as an in-person attendee but at a reduced price for students of higher education with a valid student ID and high school students. Students unable to attend in-person can use the live attendance ticket.
Early Post Conference Video: Price $20.00
Recorded video of the conference will be available after 9/30/2025 from the Zero Retries Store. After 1/2/2026, the conference will become open-source and can be downloaded at no charge.
Club Virtual Ticket: Live Attendance via Zoom: Price $175.00
A club can purchase this ticket and receive the url to the conference a few days before the conference and a link to download the materials. There is no limit to number of attendees.
Early Club Post Conference Video: Price $100.00
A club can purchase this ticket and use at a club meeting, event or however as they wish. The video will be available after 9/30/2025. A link will be provided to download materials. After 1/2/2026, the conference will become open-source and can be downloaded at no charge.
GNU Radio has graciously offered a one day pass for Zero Retries Digital Conference (ZRDC) attendees to GRCon 2025 at a significant savings. A normal one day pass was $350.00 and is now discounted to $125.00, all inclusive including meals. However, you must be registered for the Zero Retries Digital Conference (ZRDC) to receive the discount.
It is a 0.8 mile drive or 4 minute walk the Conference Center.

The airliner line-up includes the world’s only presentation of the first Boeing 727, 737 and 747 jets, the first jet Air Force One, the extremely rare Boeing 247D and Douglas DC-2 airliners from the 1930s, the only Concorde on the West Coast and the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Interested in Space? The Charles Simonyi Space Gallery includes multi-sensory exhibits that emphasize stories from the visionaries, designers, pilots and crews of the Space Shuttle program and are designed to educate and inspire all ages. The center has built a 15,500 square foot gallery that now houses NASA’s Space Shuttle Full Fuselage Trainer.There are also MANY exhibits to see and interact with.
North Cascades
The North Cascades in Washington offers breathtaking opportunities to explore one of the most rugged and pristine mountain ranges in the United States. Hiking, scenic drives, boating, and wildlife viewing are just some of the amazing things you can do in the North Cascades. Colonial Creek Campgrounds, situated along the shores of Diablo Lake (pictured above) has boat rentals and is a popular choice.
A short ferry ride from the Downtown Seattle Waterfront to an Ingenious Village where you can enjoy the entertainment of a native tribe and taste a delicious salmon bake.
Olympic Peninsula
Camping on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State offers a diverse range of outdoor experiences, from lush rainforests and rugged coastlines to alpine meadows and pristine lakes. The Olympic Peninsula is known for the Olympic National Park and has multiple campsites, including Hog Campground, Kalaoch, Sol Duc, Mora, and Hear O' the Hills Campground.
San Juan Island
Enjoy the natural beauty of the San Juan Islands in Washington State. A picturesque archipelago located in the Salish Sea, Northwest of Washington State. The waterfront campground at San Juan County Park offers views of Haro Strait and the surrounding Islands. Orcas Island has several different campgrounds and leads to the iconic Mount Constitution viewpoint.
Mount Rainier National Park
Mount Rainier is the highest peak in the Cascade Range and has different camping experiences, from developed campsites to backcountry sites. Ohanapecosh Campground is in the southern part of the park and has forested sites. Sunrise Area in the northeast part of the park offers stunning views of Mount Rainier. Mount Rainier has backcountry camping for those interest in more remote experiences.
Leavenworth, Washington
Leavenworth, a small town in the middle of the Cascade Mountains, is one of the most picturesque spots in Washington. The town is modeled after a Bavarian village, so you’ll feel like you’re walking through an Alpine village as fall foliage colors the mountain scenery around you.
