Old Privacy

Updated 2026-03-06

Below is the Privacy Policy I wrote for Zero Retries when it was hosted on Ghost. Unlike Substack, Ghost does not provide a default Privacy Policy, thus I was forced to create one. I am “back hosting” that verbiage on Zero Retries on Substack solely to preserve it “just in case” - the privacy policies below are not valid on Substack.

For current Zero Retries privacy policy, published on Substack see Privacy.

Zero Retries Privacy Notice

Updated 2026-03-10

This site / newsletter - Zero Retries is using the Ghost Pro tier of service.

It is new (January 2026) and still in development on Ghost Pro.

I previously used Substack to publish Zero Retries. Substack provided a Privacy notice for every Substack newsletter with a link at the bottom.

Ghost.org / Ghost Pro does not (automatically) provide a Privacy notice, thus I offer the following Privacy notice.

Ghost Support on Personal Information Collection and Storage

As far as what data Ghost collects, we do have details on our GDPR policy here. That said, this is specific for our Ghost(Pro) service. In terms of what data is collected by you of your members, Ghost will collect a member’s email address, and their name (if the option to do so is enabled within the Portal settings). Ghost will also collect a member’s location based on their IP address, if it is able to detect one. This data is stored in your “Members” area. If a member signs up for a paid subscription on your site, Ghost does not store the customer’s credit card information — this is stored with Stripe, in your Stripe account, and sensitive information is also redacted from you as well (as credit card numbers are not exposed, apart from the last 4 digits of the card).

Thus Ghost.org / Ghost Pro largely controls what personal information is collected and stored.

Personal Information Collection and Storage

Ghost.org’s / Ghost Pro’s terminology for an email subscriber is “member”.

The information collected and stored, that I am aware of, as of the date above:

  • Email address - For those who wish to receive Zero Retries newsletters via email (email subscriber), that email address is collected and stored.

  • Name - If an email subscriber opts to (not required) provide a name, that name is collected and stored (associated with the email address).

  • Location - An email subscriber’s location based on their IP address (if location is detectable from the IP address) is collected and stored.

  • Financial - For email subscribers that wish to purchase paid subscriptions, credit card information is collected. The last 4 digits of the credit card number is stored on Ghost.org / Ghost Pro. Full credit card information is stored by Stripe, who Ghost.org / Ghost Pro has chosen to use for processing paid subscriptions.
